How to Maintain a Beautiful Clean Home Using Essential Oils

One of the biggest things that I learned when my father had cancer was the more questions I searched for, the more I realized we were living in a very toxic environment in which we were unconsciously contaminating the very people we loved.

One of the questions that I’ve started to research on was how did this come about? Where could this come from? In that search, I realized the amount of toxicity that we’ve brought into our living spaces-- into our world that we were using all around us over the years because we weren’t aware of what was happening.

The industries were aware. The industries are making quicker and more profitable products with synthetic versions that can be made in a lab. Say for example lavender, if it were synthetically made, we don’t need land to grow the plants; we don’t need to cultivate and nurture and look after them which takes time and manpower. It can be done quickly and easily in a lab, and made in bulk at a fraction of the cost. Indeed, but at what cost?

THESE INGREDIENTS ARE KILLING ME

What I started to realize when I looked at the cleaning products in my home was that there were no ingredients whatsoever on them, but there was a message that said: “Keep out of the reach of children and flammable.” Alarm bells started to ring and I immediately opened my cupboard in my kitchen and took every single product out of there. I put them on my kitchen bench, got a plastic bag and chucked them all in it. I did the same with all my bathroom and skin care products, and every single thing I could find in my house that I could not understand its ingredients’ list. I also went through all the food products that were in cans, glasses, jars in my pantry. If I couldn’t read the back labels, and I could not understand what was in those sauces, biscuits and chips (all the products that we’ve made convenient for our lifestyle)--if I did not know what was in it, it was gone.

For me, it was non-negotiable. It was a light bulb moment that I realized this isn’t serving me. I have a father that’s seriously ill; I’ve got a new child so pure and innocent with developing systems, airways, skin and all the neurological processes going on. Everything that I do he will be absorbing the learnt behaviours - so it wasn’t ok to be ignorant any longer.

My son did have a lot of intolerances. He was very hyperactive as a baby and very over-stimulated. When he went out and was influenced by others, I would notice if he had a lolly or he had something that was full of sugars and additives. I could literally count down when he would just be running around like a crazy child. It was uncontrollable. He couldn’t control what was going on in his little body. That was another light bulb moment to see that in motion. He was my gift showing me what these products were doing. In adults, the effects aren’t as evident straight away, or at least we sometimes turn a blind eye to what our bodies are feeling, but kids can’t control themselves. They can’t remove themselves from situations if they are feeling a certain way.

I removed everything and started to look at the simple things of what we could do and how we could use products in our home. I also looked at the laundry products and know that what I did was for the benefit of my family's health because the research now shows what those chemicals are capable of and as a society we are seeing the ramifications all around us.

CLEANING SHOULD BE SIMPLE

Let me break this down for you as to how simple a cleaning bench product can be--a spray bottle, distilled water and essential oils. That’s it. When you use essential oils, you use ones that have been known to have anti-bacterial, anti-microbe, and virus properties that are going to be beneficial for your benches to help clear any germs or bacteria that have formed. Basically that’s it. You can add vinegar if you like but it’s pretty easy and it’s cost efficient.

For me, this is a recipe I use:

  • 500ml glass bottle

  • 20 drops of essential oils (doTERRA Onguard, Lemon, Wild Orange, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus)

  • fill with distilled water

I vary the oils depending on what I feel like smelling or where I am using it. What I use for the bathroom and shower will be different to the one I use for the kitchen bench.

When we are looking at dishwasher detergent, I use a bi-carb (food grade), a few drops of essential oil, a tiny little bit of natural castile soap & a teaspoon of salt. That’s it.

ESSENTIAL OILS ARE CHEAP

You ask, “Is it cost efficient using essential oils? and I say “Is it cost efficient buying a ten dollar bottle of chemical products?” Because in my eyes, absolutely it is! Going natural outweighs any long term effects of using products that are known and researched to be hormone disruptors, cause skin issues, illness & disease. The real question then is what is the cost that you put on your long term effects for your health and your family’s health?

I think we’ve been given a world of full abundance and knowledge and sometimes that can be too much. We can be overwhelmed. However, when you have support it is easy & really it’s just a choice of what you want in your life--either you choose sickness or wellness? I love sharing what I’m doing because my whole world revolves around wellness. It’s all a matter of how can I create a healthier version of myself and overflow that onto my family?

I have about 4 sprays:

1) for my kitchen bench,

2) for cleaning glass,

3) for cleaning stainless steel

4) for my shower and bathroom.

I have a spray bottle that sits in my shower and I just give it a bit of a squirt after every shower so the scum and mold don’t build up. It takes me two seconds to spray and I love it because it smells beautiful. Who doesn’t love the smell of fresh lemons, oranges, citrus fruit, a bit of eucalyptus or a little bit of tea tree? I know I do! It actually makes your house and bathroom stay fresh, clean & smell absolutely divine! For my toilet, I use doTERRA essential oil, bi-carb & vinegar. My children love the chemical reaction so they as teenagers now keep the toilets clean, while I can trust they aren’t being exposed to nasty chemical products.

SCIENCE NEVER LIES

These oils have been tried and tested with anti-bacterial, anti-microbe, anti-viral properties. We know that plants in nature protect themselves. They don’t have a house. They don’t have protection. They don’t have someone coming and nurturing them and making sure that they are all tucked in. They have to protect themselves through all the elements. That is where the essential oils come in. The essential oil is the immune system for the plant. It helps the plant to ward off pests and diseases and recover from diseases. All the things that plants need to thrive and survive in nature are the same properties in essential oils that we’re utilizing within our home.

Simple really, isn't it? Simple, smells divine and it keeps your family healthy and happy. You no longer have to go into that shower with a gas mask on, then come out with your nostrils half burnt and your throat feeling like you’ve just stepped out from a chemical blast of some sort of toxic substance, desperately needing to gasp for breath and get out in the fresh air in the next thirty minutes! That’s exactly how I felt before. Now I clean my shower and I love the smell. Not only am I cleaning and disinfecting my bathroom with essential oils, but I am also getting those beautiful health properties by aromatically breathing in those oils.

Let me help you bring these amazing essential oils into your home and keep your family safe from toxic overload.

I would love to hear how you’re using Essential oil’s for your family and around your home; ideas, tips, tricks or just an amazing blend your loving!
